How Can a Clogged Drain Plumber Help You?

When you’ve got a clogged drain, your first instinct is obviously to try and clear it yourself. Depending on where the clog is and what is causing the clog, you may choose to go in with your own hands to remove debris, use a plunger, or try a chemical solution. But what do you do when all those options fail? You call a professional clogged drain plumber.

Specialized Plumbing Tools

A professional plumber will have access to specialized tools that the average home owner won’t have. They are usually more expensive, so when you only need to use them once or twice, it can be cost prohibitive. However, a clogged drain plumber will use them several times a day, so it makes the cost worth it. Here’s a few of those specialized tools we might use.

Manual Drain Snake – Also known as a plumbers snake, this tool is a long cable that has a corkscrew shaped hook at the top. It rotates as it is physically pushed down the drain. This breaks up the debris causing the clog so water can run freely again. This is typically the first option a clogged drain plumber will try.

Motorized Drain Snake – If the manual drain snake doesn’t work well enough on the clog, a motorized version may be used. These are typically inserted into a sewer cleanout port on the outside of your home. They have a maximum reach of 150 feet and can clear larger clogs than the manual drain snake.

HD Drain and Sewer Line Cameras – If the clogged drain plumber still isn’t able to clear the pipe, it may indicate a complete blockage. This is where a high definition camera comes in handy. Using the same method as the drain snakes, a small camera can be inserted and pushed through the drain. It’s hooked up to a viewing screen so the professionals can actually see what’s going on inside the pipe and then develop a plan to clear it.

Hydro-Jetting Machine – For the absolute worst clogs, a hydro-jetting machine uses concentrated jets of water to clear away build-up from cooking grease, shampoo, soap, and other substances that are sticking to the walls of your pipes. Think of it like power-washing the inside of your pipes. At 35,000 pounds per square inch, it’s a powerful enough tool to leave your pipes looking like new again.
